BEITBRIDGE has been hit by a fresh upsurge in HIV infections attributed unprotected sex, which has also pushed up sexually transmitted infections in the border town.

Briefing journalists on a National Aids Council of Zimbabwe media tour of Beitbridge on Thursday, district Aids Coordinator Edward Mulaudzi said the district at 14.5 percent prevalence rate of HIV infections is above national average which is worrisome.

He said NAC has several intervention programmes being rolled out in the district plagued by teenage pregnancies, child marriages and child sex abuse cases.

Of note was the influx of young child sex workers among the factors District development Coordinator Sikhangezile Mafu said were pushed by economic factors, transient populations and a hive of activity at the country’s busiest port….More to follow
