A 25 year old Beitbridge man has been remanded in custody after being brought before Beitbridge Magistrate Court facing two counts of fraud and another charge for smuggling three trucks loaded with 30 tonnes of Chrome. He was arraigned before the Beitbridge Magistrate’s Court
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe reports that man Brian Zimbune went to Beitbridge Border Post to smuggle three trucks loaded with 30 tonnes of Chrome concentrate without undergoing ZIMRA process.
He pretended to be a Zimborders Technician who wanted to upgrade network system on the ZIMRA scanning gadgets in order to access the users’ credentials and scan the passage Access Coupons for the said trucks.
The unsuspecting ZIMRA Officials, on Separate incidents, handed their respective scanning gadgets to the accused person on the pretext that he was on duty.
He scanned three Passages Access Coupons for the trucks, before he left the officials in their respective counters. The officials discovered the offense when the trucks were intercepted at the South African side.
Zimbune was remanded out of custody to the 10th of October 2024
