A 58-year-old man from Beitbridge East has been jailed for 15 years for repeatedly raping his 14-year-old granddaughter over nearly three years.
A shameful monster Mushumo Ncube used a knife to commit his heinous acts.
He appeared before Beitbridge Regional Magistrate Charity Maphosa on Friday this week, where he was convicted.
It was agreed the offences were committed between May 12, 2023 and March 21, 2026 at Chamathala Village under Chief Matibe in Beitbridge District.
The complainant, a juvenile, was aged 14 years at the time and is related to Ncube.
Prosecutor Mercy Nyathi told the abuse began on May 12, 2023 when Ncube allegedly entered the complainant’s bedroom while she was asleep and demanded sexual intercourse.
After the juvenile refused, Ncube produced an okapi knife and threatened to kill her.
Fearing for her life, the juvenile complied before Ncube forcibly removed her clothing and raped her twice without protection.
Nyathi told the court that the Ncube continued to sexually abuse the juvenile on several occasions thereafter, often sneaking into the room she shared with her elder sister during the night.
On March 21 this year, the juvenile had reportedly gone to fetch firewood in a nearby forest when Ncube allegedly followed her and again demanded sex.
The court heard that Ncube again threatened the juvenile with an okapi knife before sexually assaulting her.
This time, the juvenile escaped and spent two days hiding in the forest before she later reported the matter to her cousin.
Police were informed causing the arrest of Ncube.
The juvenile was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital for medical examination and the affidavit was presented in court.
