A 24 year old man from Dulibadzimu Beitbridge has been jailed 5 years for unlawful possession of dagga and unregistered medicines.

In a statement, the National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe stated that Tshuma appeared before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court and was convicted on two counts possession of 20.5 kilograms of dagga and 100 bottles of 100ml Broncleer cough syrup.

The dagga had a street value of USD 2,050 while the unregistered syrup was worth USD 500.

The arrest took place on 2 October 2025 at around 0845 hours. Police officers were conducting an anti-smuggling operation at the Bubi checkpoint along the Beitbridge-Masvingo Road when they stopped a Freight Liner Truck.

Tshuma was a passenger.

A search of his suitcase and red travelling bag led to the drug discovery.

The court sentenced him to 5 years in prison for the dagga offence, with 2 years suspended. He will serve an effective 4 years.

On the second count, Tshuma received an additional 12-months sentence.

The NPA continues to warn that drug peddling and illegal trafficking are destroying lives and communities across Zimbabwe.
