The Regional Magistrate Court for the Western Division in Beitbridge has sentenced 32-year-old Moses Mukonowenzou to 23 and a half years in prison after being found guilty of robbery and rape.

The incident took place at a residence in Mashakada, Beitbridge. According to court proceedings, Mukonowenzou unlawfully entered the victim’s home, where he violently threatened her with an okapi knife. During this armed robbery, he stole cash and a cellular phone.

Tragically, following the robbery Mukonowenzou proceeded to assault the victim sexually, engaging in non-consensual intercourse.


Medical evidence presented in court substantiated the claims of sexual assault, leading to the conviction on both charges.
