After proving to be one of the best athletes in the country at the youth inter provincial competitions, Beitbridge ‘s Derrick Matutu is set to represent Zimbabwe at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China from 10 to 11 May 2025.
The Zezani High school student has earned his place in the 4×400 meters Zimbabwean relay team set to compete in Guangzhou, following his successful victories in the 400m races from district to the national competitions.
Zezani high school headmaster Kgotso Sebata, confirmed that the young man has indeed earned a place to represent the country in World Athletics Relays in China.
“The boy’s 400m times are improving in every competition. He earned himself a place in the senior team – 4 x 400m relay Zimbabwean team heading to China,” Sebata stated.
Derrick Matutu secured a 400meters gold medal in the interprovincial individual race before conquering the 4×400 meters relay alongside his fellow Zezani high mate Brilliant Mawadze, Anele Ncube from Wanezi and Ncube Shelton of Plumtree, a fear theat earned a national call up into the Zimbabwean team.
