It is one thing to have talent and another to use it to support others especially young people and awaken a desire to make better of their lives.

In a world that is accelerating towards selfishness, Beitbridge’s Cake Master , real name Solomon Ngwenya, stands out as one of the few who are able to sacrifice and adorn the jacket of selflessness.

The  self taught connoisseur of cakes,  was a toast at the just ended Matebeleland South Provincial Schools  Athletics Competitions as his artistry in baking was there for all to see, sweetening the event with  cake prizes for the top three schools from his brand , Solomonic Cakes

“As a baker, I saw it fit to encourage the participants, cheer the children ,by sponsoring some prizes with what I have, I baked  cakes for the three winning districts plus the host thanking them for a job well done, the teams  also got  branded brochures and trophies,” said Ngwenya with smile testament to his excitement.

Ngwenya whose passion for children is evident, highlighted that his motivation for sponsoring was to support an initiative that is good for children and building their future.

” I grew up an athlete my self, I am surrounded by children in the community and Vhembe is our school, I decided to come and put my hand in a small way by supporting an event that has the power to keep our children off the streets, off drugs and all sorts of bad things, sport encourages good behaviour and community cohesion.”

He encouraged young people to take a leaf from him and use their God given talents to survive and have positive community impact.

“I desire to be an inspiration to the young ones on how to use your hands and God given gifts to earn a living and assist your community. They are learning practical subjects like Wood Work , Food and Nutrition and Fashion and Fabrics, the skills must not die in the school system but go beyond to be used for survival  and community benefit,” he concluded.

Ngwenya is an inspiration to many young people, his is a story of determination, hard work and nurturing raw talent towards being a renowned baker without professional training.
