As the scramble for the funds allocated to the Citizens Coalition for Change under the political parties Finance Act intensify, a faction of the beleaguered opposition party has disowned Sengezo Tshabangu, the self-styled Secretary General of the political outfit. The seemingly all powerful Tshabangu made the headlines soon after last year’s elections recalling Members of Parliament leading to the resignation of Nelson Chamisa.
With the CCC set to pocket at least US$1,579,750, Tshabangu is set to have a huge say in who will benefit from the money allocated to CCC. Willias Madzimure, the Welshman Ncube led faction’s Secretary for Information and Publicity has rebuffed a legal opinion that circulated on social media which purported that Sengezo Tshabangu is the only bonafide CCC executive member.
“The Leadership of the party has perused this purported opinion and is of the opinion that this is a fake document that could not possibly having authored by a reputable law firm of the repute of Messrs Ncube and partners.
“The leadership assures the members of the party and the public that the Party leadership is firmly in control of the party and all its organs and that any notion that the leadership is no longer in existence is false, flawed and self-serving propaganda designed to sow despondency among party members, said Madzimure in a press statement.
Ironically, the said legal opinion or memo is said to have been authored by Messrs Ncube and Partners at the behest of Sengezo Tshabangu. Madzimure has challenged the authors of the opinion to provide evidence supporting their claim.
“The Party leadership further challenges the authors of the opinion to produce any evidence of whatever description and nature from the period 22 January 2022 to the period of the start of the recalls of elected Party officials which published or indicated that Sengezo Tshabangu was the interim Secretary General of the party during that period or to produce any evidence that he performed at any level any function of the office of Secretary General during that period.”
It remains to be seen if the brave statement by Madzimure will yield the desired results as Sengezo Tshabangu has proven to be standing on solid ground if his recalls are anything to go by.
The CCC interim Secretary for Information and Publicity also tried in his statement to reiterate that no one will be allowed personalise the party by putting it in their pocket but all indications since election 2023 have shown Tshabangu has CCC in his pocket.
