A man in court for allegedly stealing a light from the Beitbridge border post was left stunned when Prosecutor Ronald Mugwagwa summoned Closed Circuit Television camera footage to drive home his case.

As technology met technology, footage from numerous cameras in the upgraded US$300 million border post was played on the new monitors in upgraded courts leaving Brighton Moyo amazed by his images on the prowl.

The cameras in different dimensions captured his 5:30 am movie as he looked over his shoulders to stealthily enter the Vehicle Inspection Department inspection pit.

A bypasser sees him and stops to chat with him briefly before leaving him to continue his “job”.

Unbeknown to Moyo, the same person he spoke with alerted security guards in the facility.

And as Moyo walked out of the VID “his” newly found light packed away in his plastic bag, he was met by a security guard who arrested him.

“I do not have any questions after watching the video on the television,” a beaten Moyo said.

Moyo stands charged of theft from the vehicle inspection pit.

He had initially denied the charge saying he only picked up the light which was not working he felt he could break and use it to repair his kettle.

“I did not steal but I simply picked up a malfunctioning light from a VID inspection pit. I left another one which was working,” said Moyo.

“I wanted to repair my kettle so i just picked the dead light. I did not steal,” he said.

But after learning he had no permission to be where he had taken it from and that no one gave it to him he saw his defence waning.

The television footage worsened his day, effectively stunning him.

Magistrate Gillian Padzakashamba postponed the case to Wednesday February 25, 2026 for judgment after Moyo said he had no defence.
