Harare, Zimbabwe –The Chairperson of the Harare City Council’s Environmental Management Committee, has criticized the local authority’s leadership, claiming that incompetence and a lack of initiative have led to significant failures in service delivery.
Her remarks came during her appearance before a Commission of Inquiry investigating the operational challenges facing the capital.
Chimbiri did not hold back as she pointed to what she described as “lazy and incompetent leadership” at the Town House, asserting that this has severely hampered the council’s ability to provide essential services to residents.
“We do have a lazy kind of leadership that is not prepared to move forward and make service delivery priority in this city,” she stated, highlighting a concerning trend of misalignment and lack of focus among council members.
The inquiry aims to address the numerous issues plaguing Harare, including inadequate waste management, insufficient water supply, and poor road maintenance. Chimbiri’s testimony underscores the urgent need for accountability and effective governance in the council to restore public trust and improve the quality of life for Harare’s residents.
The capital city has been plagued by years of poor service delivery and rings of corruption, ineptness underlined by poor corporate governance have been blamed for the myriad of challenges faced by Harare.
