By celebrating emerging artists, a community talent show in Lutumba is turning the spotlight on opportunity, creativity and the fight against drug abuse.

JOSEPH Rukara, popularly known as Chindege, has emerged as the 2026 Beitbridge Superstar, winning a cash prize and trophy after outshining 10 fellow contestants at a talent show aimed at giving rural artists a platform to shine.

The third edition of the Beitbridge Superstar Talent Show, organised by Donzvo Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd, was held in Lutumba on Saturday, bringing together aspiring performers in a celebration of creativity and local talent.

For Chindege, the victory marked a personal milestone.

For the organisers, it was another step towards creating opportunities for young artists whose abilities often go unnoticed because of limited exposure and resources.

The competition also carried a broader message: investing in young people’s talents can help build confidence, encourage positive pursuits and strengthen community efforts to combat drug abuse.

Shimron Sibanda, chief executive officer of Donzvo Entertainment, said the initiative was designed to uplift rural artists, promote equal opportunities and encourage young people to pursue constructive activities.

He said all 10 contestants performed well, but financial constraints meant only one participant could receive the prize.

“Only one winner was picked among the 10 participants. All of them did well, but our resources could not permit us to award each and every one,” Sibanda said.

Although Chindege walked away with the top prize, the competition provided a platform for other participants to showcase their abilities and gain exposure.

Sibanda said the event lacked sufficient sponsors and appealed to businesses to support future editions.

“We don’t have enough sponsors for the show,” he said, calling on the business community to partner with Donzvo Entertainment in developing local talent and supporting efforts to fight drug abuse.

Sibanda announced that the fourth edition of the Beitbridge Superstar Talent Show would be held in Beitbridge town, signalling plans to expand the competition’s reach.

For Chindege, the 2026 title is a moment of recognition. For the other contestants, it is a reminder that the journey continues.
