ISHEANESU Chitota scored a brilliant brace as Vhembe Stars Academy U17 beat Dulibadzimu United U17 2-1 to lift the Heroes Cup at Dulibadzimu Stadium on Monday.
The match was part of commemorations to pay tribute to the fallen heroes and heroines of Zimbabwe’s liberation.
Vhembe Stars Academy U17 forward Chitota broke the deadlock before Dulibadzimu United’s Sithole scored an equaliser from the penalty spot in the first half.
The teams went into half time level at 1-1, before Vhembe Stars Academy scored a late winner to clinch the cup.
The battle continued in the last 45 minutes as the two Beitbridge development sides pushed to grab the title.
In an interview with Ziyah News Network, Secretary General Foster Abeki said he was grateful and appreciated the young boys’ win.
“They are a development team and it speaks louder than words what they have done today. It shows that we are doing what is right. We are grooming the boys and at the end of the day they have delivered to show that they are mastering the techniques,” Abeki said.
Abekie also said the boys’ determination shows that the club has strong stewardship.
He said that the club has achieved its objective of making the boys competitive and instilling in them the hunger to play football.
