Controversial Businessman Wicknell Chivayo, has announced a substantial cash reward of $100,000 in the wake of a brazen armed robbery that took place at his in-laws’ farm in Marondera, early morning of March 18, 2025.
The incident involved a group of 20 armed men who reportedly made off with $75,000 in cash, believed to be part of the bride price Chivayo recently paid for his wife, Lulu Muteke, during their traditional wedding on March 8, 2025.
In a statement posted on his Instagram account, Chivayo confirmed the robbery but did not initially disclose the exact amount stolen.
He expressed his outrage over the violent nature of the crime and urged the public to assist law enforcement in apprehending the suspects.
In a bid to obtain information about the robbers, Chivayo has vowed to reward any credible leads that result in an arrest.
“to support this public effort, i am offering a reward of usd 100,000 in hard cash to anyone who will provide credible information leading to the positive identification of any or all of these shameless robbers, their residential locations or other significant particulars and ultimately their arrest. this reward is offered on a no questions asked basis, provided any of the culprits are identified and apprehended,” chivayo stated.
The announcement of the $100,000 reward following the theft of $75,000 has sparked discussions about the paradox of offering a sum greater than the amount stolen.
Many are questioning the rationale behind Chivayo’s substantial reward, as some view it as an excessive response to a crime that, while serious and distressing, involved a sum that is less than the reward being offered.
