A vibrant May Day sports gala is underway at Beitbridge Government Primary School.
It has brought together eight different churches and is promoting unity and fellowship through competition.
It is running under the theme “Building Unity Through Sports: One Faith, One People, One Purpose.”
Teams from United Methodist Church, Baptist, Methodist, Reformed Church in Zimbabwe , Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe, Church of Christ, Salvation Army and Anglican are competing in netball, soccer, chess and volleyball, with matches currently in the group stages.
The event has drawn participants and supporters from across the community, all celebrating both sport and shared faith.
Speaking to Ziyah News Network, the Vice Chairperson of the gala Veronica Moyo said the event aims to strengthen relationships among churches while encouraging healthy lifestyles and teamwork. Players have shown determination and respect on the field, reflecting the spirit of unity behind the event.
The coordinator , Pastor Mabhena from Beitbridge Baptist Church, also said that playing games such as soccer, netball, and chess helps bring churches together as one community. He added that these activities promote unity and cooperation among people in Beitbridge.
Winners in all disciplines will receive trophies and medals at the end of the tournament. More updates are expected as the games progress into the knockout stages.
