The Zimbabwe Republic Police in Beitbridge has confirmed the arresting of a 26 year old man for illegal possession of 16 kilograms of dagga.
The arrest of Melusi Ngwenya (26) was confirmed by Beitbridge police Chief Superintendent Melusi Ncube who highlighted that the arrest of dagga peddlers and smugglers is akin to a daily occurrence.
“It has become a daily routine because we arrest several culprits every day, dagga has become a drug that people usually possess” Superintendent Ncube
Dagga smuggling across the border is so rampant as the busy port of entry witnesses the stashing of the illegal drug in and amongst goods including packets of chicken cuts wrapped inside cardboard boxes.
Meanwhile SA police service has reported two arrests of suspects for dealing in dagga, the suspects were caught with a substantial amount of dagga which was seized by the police. In separate incident during an operation, illegal outlets were raided in Pauballo and Rosedale area where amount of R11 000.00 was reported seized.
SAPS also reported the arrest of a 21 year old female at the OR Tambo international airport who is now the 11th drug mole to be arrested in a period of two months.The drug mule was intercepted as she was arriving on a flight from Sao Paulo.
