A Banker man will spend the next 16 years under lock and key after he was convicted of raping his biological daughter resulting in pregnancy
The man, an artisanal miner was initially sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Chinhoyi Regional Magistrates’ Court, but 4 years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.
The court was told the abuse occurred over several occasions dating back to 2017, when the child was left alone at home. Medical examinations later confirmed that she was 14 weeks pregnant. The matter came to light after the victim’s stepmother noticed changes in the girl’s behaviour. A police report was made following a hospital visit and the father was promptly arrested.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has implore families to be safe spaces for children not places of fear or harm., subsequently urging communities to report any form of child sexual abuse, no matter who is involved.
