Tichaona Rungwena (41) and Kudakwashe Mapuranga (26) were convicted by Karoi Magistrate’s Court of possessing twine nets and fishing in prohibited or restricted waters.

 The duo was arrested  by a Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit patrol team led by game ranger Nicholas Bikausaru while fishing in the restricted Katete Lodge resort area.

The offenders were sentenced to pay USD110 or 1 month imprisonment on the first count. On the second count they were sentenced to pay USD50 or 1 month imprisonment.

Circumstances are that Bumi Hills Anti Poaching Unit was patrolling a dam in the area by speed boat when they observed two offenders both residing at Chalala compound 10 in Chalala, fishing in the restricted Katete Lodge resort area.

The patrol team apprehended the offenders and recovered the twine nets measuring 30 meters by 50 meters and the dingy boat they were using. The twine nets were forfeited to the State.
