A 30 year old Mutare man, Loveworthy Peace Nyamungunda, is in custody after allegedly impersonating a Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) officer to avoid paying parking fines.
Nyamungunda was arraigned before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court and remanded in custody to June 30, 2025.
According to reports, Nyamungunda’s vehicle, a Toyota Wish, was clamped twice by Mutare Municipal Police for parking offenses.
To evade fines, he claimed to be a ZACC official, presenting a fake ID labeled Southern Africa Regional Anti-Corruption Organisation (SARACO).
The first incident occurred on May 6, 2025, and the second on June 12, 2025. Initially, the Municipal Police Inspector believed him and released the vehicle without a fine, but the second time around, the Inspector grew suspicious and reported the incident to Principal Security Officer, who escalated it to ZACC, leading to Nyamungunda’s arrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has reminded th Le public that impersonating government officials is a serious offense, warning citizens to verify identity claims and report suspicious behavior to the relevant authorities.
