A heartbreaking incident unfolded today in Beitbridge, where a five-year-old girl tragically lost her life due to electrical shock.

A miner a from Dulibadzimu residence, was electrocuted after ZESA (Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority) allegedly connected naked wires to a water tap.

According to reports shared with Ziyah News Network by the child’s aunt, Beatrice Tinacho, the incident occurred while the child was playing outside with friends.

“I saw the incident happening, She was playing outside with her friends when she tried to open the tap to drink water, and that’s when she got shocked by the electricity,” she recounted.

“It’s sad that they left the area where they were working unattended, especially in a place where kids were playing,” she added.

ZESA personnel were reportedly still on the scene when the incident took place. They quickly disconnected the breaker and rushed the child to the clinic, but unfortunately, it was too late. Upon arrival, she was declared dead.

The devastating news has left family and friends in deep shock and grief. The community is calling for accountability and better safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.

This tragic accident raises serious concerns about public safety and the responsibilities of utility providers in ensuring that their infrastructure does not pose a danger to residents, particularly children.
