The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development has opened registration for the November 2025 session of industrial trade theory tests under the Industrial Training and Trade Testing Department.

Registration will be conducted on 30 and 31 October 2025, from 08:00 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Beitbridge Ministry of Youth Offices, located in the Old ZRP Building.

The trade tests, including both theory and practical examinations will take place in Bulawayo at Bulawayo Westgate Industrial College.

In an interview, Human Capital and Skills Development Officer, Lawrence Gonye said the programme is conducted three times a year in March, July and November to help skilled workers gain official recognition for their competencies.

“The main objective of industrial testing is to ensure that people get certificates that match their skills so that they are paid salaries appropriate to their qualifications,” Gonye said.

“These certificates are recognised internationally, allowing holders to work overseas if opportunities arise.”

The trade testing system provides a formal pathway for individuals with hands on experience to validate their skills.

“The programme targets a wide range of skilled workers including electricians, welders, mechanics, builders, plumbers, carpenters, and other artisans who want to obtain officially recognised trade certificates that validate their experience and technical expertise.” Gonye said

Gonye also said the industrial testing accommodates different levels of experience, giving opportunities to those who may not have completed college training.

“Level 1 is for those with at least five years of work experience. For example, someone who attended college and did not finish can still come and be certified,” he said.

“Level 2 is for those with four years of experience, Level 3 for three years, and Level 4 for two years.”

To register, applicants must submit certified copies of their birth certificate and national identification, three colour passport-sized photographs (17mm x 25mm) and a reference letter on letterhead or an N.C. statement of results.

Payment can be made via Ecocash, swipe, cash or bank transfer, with fees pegged in US dollars and payable in local currency at the official exchange rate of the day.

The registration fees are as follows:
• Theory Class 1 – US$43
• Theory Class 2 – US$40
• Theory Class 3 – US$37
• Theory Class 4 – US$18

Practical test fees range from US$95 for Class 1 to US$40 for Class 4, while the National Certificate Exemption Fee is US$138, and the Statement of Results costs US$10.

Once registered, candidates will receive an invitation letter specifying the date, venue and time for both their theory and practical tests.

“After registration, each candidate gets an official invitation letter that outlines where and when their examinations will be conducted,”Gonye said.

“All theory and practical tests will take place in Bulawayo to maintain consistency and proper supervision.”

Gonye said the industrial testing programme plays a key role in empowering workers with formal qualifications that enhance employability and income levels.

“This programme helps skilled Zimbabweans gain recognition for what they can do,” he said.

“It supports the government’s efforts to promote skills development and professional growth in various industries.”
