As Zimbabweans were busy preparing for end of year festivities, two men from Gweru were busy conjuring up ideas to rob them of their valuables.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Kasawala Shiri and his accomplice, Tanaka Zhou who is still at large, while armed with knives, broke into the complainant’s home at Hycania Farm, Shurugwi.
Shiri placed a knife on the complainant’s neck threatening to kill him if he resisted their orders.
They ransacked the house and took a Samsung Galaxy A11 cellphone, a 40 inch LG television, an electric motor, cooper coiled welding machine and an assortment of grocery items. Shiri and his accomplice walked away.
The complainant managed to identify the Shiri who once worked at a neighbouring farm. He awakened other farm workers and went after the Shiri and his accomplice. They caught up with them but they managed to escape, leaving their loot behind.
Kasawala was arrested after a tip off, convicted by Shurugwi Magistrate Court and sentenced to 5 years in prison for armed robbery but will serve an effective four years after one year was suspended.
