Jean-Pierre Kingombe, a 49 year old man  has been arrested and sentenced to 12 months in prison for defrauding a Harare resident of 10,500 in a fraudulent money duplication scheme.

Kingombe was sentenced by the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPAZ), said Kingombe and an accomplice, who remains at large, convinced the complainant in October 2022 that they possessed the ability to duplicate money using magic.

After demonstrating the alleged process with small sums, the complainant was persuaded to hand over USD7,000 for duplication.

Kingombe then swapped the money with blank papers.  The complainant, further deceived, later provided an additional USD3,500 for purported chemicals and accommodation for the fraudsters, who subsequently became evasive.
