A Beitbridge woman has been granted a five-year protection order against her husband of 29 years at the Beitbridge Civil Court.

Hilda Ndlovu was the applicant. Ndiphelani Ndou was the respondent. The matter was heard before Provincial Magistrate Mbonisi Kaweni.

Ndlovu told the court that Ndou becomes abusive whenever he drinks.

“When he drinks he becomes verbally abusive and uses vulgar language to everyone in the house,” said Ndlovu.

She said he assaults her when she tries to reprimand him.

“Whenever I try to reprimand him he assaults me,” said Ndlovu.

Ndlovu further told the court that Ndou assaults her over food.

“He does not want to eat cold food and that leads to assault,” she said.

Ndou did not oppose the application.

“I have no objections to what she said. It is because of some issues that we have,” said Ndou.

Kaweni granted the order in favour of Ndlovu.

“The respondent is barred from assaulting the applicant and the order will remain in force for five years,” ruled Kaweni.
