JKT Queens has been crowned the champions of the inaugural CAF U17 Girls integrated Football Tournament after securing a 2-1 victory over TDS Girls in Tanzania.
The Tanzanian duo battled in a thrilling final,and JKT Queens emerged victorious, thanks to Winfrida Gerald ‘s brace that sealed the victory before TDS Girls ‘ Winfrida Mathias scored the consolation goal.
Gerald displayed a masterclass performance when she scored a brace that took her tally in the competition to eight goals and scooped the Golden boot award. The golden boot is testament she has a fine future in the game and the massive potential women football possesses in Africa.
TDS Girls ‘Mary Siyane walked away with player of the tournament award after an outstanding display in the entire tournament. Meanwhile the goalkeeper of the tournament was won by Siyane ‘s teammate Nusra Jafari.
The TDS Girls team also walked away with the fair play award in this tournament.
The CAF U17 Gift tournament is a ground breaking initiative in the ongoing Women football development. This tournament has been established by CAF to the CECAFA region to promote gender equality and promote the emergence of new talents. It featured 8 teams drawn from the CECAFA region.
