SOUTH Africa’s expensively assembled Mamelodi Sundowns FC on Sunday night were once again crowned African champions after their 2025/26 CAF Champions League winner defeating Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat.
Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena were the toasts with the former saving a penalty of his own making while sheer brilliance ruled for Mokoena.
Despite an earlier setback by Zimbabwean wingback Divine Lunga who conceded a controversial penalty awarded after the referee reviewed his first decision, MaSandawana or the Brazilians romped home to victory.
The South Africans won by securing a draw in Rabat after taking a narrow single goal lead from the first leg in SA Africa.
The Mokoena screamer in the second half killed the all North Africans hopes in a game monitored on Television by Ziyah News Network. Home fans gushed out of the Stadium as people from the South held firm.
It meant the South African club secured a 2-1 aggregate victory, following a 1-1 draw in the second leg at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The recent victory marks several massive achievements for the club, the Second Star on their African continental jersey.
This is Sundowns’ second CAF Champions League title, adding to their maiden continental triumph in 2016.
Mokoena scored a crucial half-volley just before half-time to equalize on the night.
Additionally, goalkeeper Ronwen Williams came up massive by saving a 77th-minute penalty to maintain their aggregate lead.
Prior to their continental success, they also secured another record-extending Premier Soccer League (PSL) title this year.
