A Beitbridge man has been fined US$200 for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs by Beitbridge magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba on Monday March 2 2026.
Wilson Dube (27) pleaded guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Tashinga Gorejena told the court that the offence occurred on February 25 2026 at Mateza Bottle Store in Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge.
The court heard that detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were on patrol in Dulibadzimu when they saw Dube sitting suspiciously outside the bottle store.
They approached and searched him and recovered a sachet of crystal meth from his bag.
Dube admitted to the charge.
However, in mitigation he told the court that the drugs were not his.
“Someone left the sachet in my care and that is why the CID officers found it in my possession,” he said.
Magistrate Gwazemba convicted him on his own plea of guilt and fined him US$200. In default of payment, he will serve two months in prison.
Dube pleaded with the court for time to raise the money.
The state said he is a first offender.
