The Chipinge Magistrates’ Court has convicted a 35-year-old man from Makiwa Village, Chief Garahwa, for domestic violence after he brutally assaulted his 60-year-old mother during a family dispute.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe,the incident took place on the night of July the 20th 2025, around 2200 hours when the offender returned home and confronted a family member over homestead matters.
In a shocking turn of events, when his mother attempted to intervene and diffuse the situation, he became violent. He struck her in the face and head and also attacked her legs with a wooden log, resulting in visible injuries.
Following the assault, the victim sought medical attention and the matter was reported to the police leading to a swift investigation. In court, the offender was sentenced to 16 months in prison however, this sentence was wholly suspended on the condition that he completes 420 hours of community service.
In light of this case, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has expressed its unwavering commitment to protecting victims of domestic abuse and ensuring that offenders face justice.
