Mutare-A 55 year old man from Mutasa Village has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, with 2 years suspended, for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter. He was sentenced and convicted by Mutare Magistrate Court.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), reports that the complainant’s mother left the complainant and her sibling in the custody of the accused person.
One evening as they were sleeping in the same room the accused person proceeded to the complainant, covered her mouth using his hand and took her outside.
He removed her clothes before raping her. After committing the offence he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
The complainant confided in her mother about the offence.
When the accused person was confronted, he threatened to kill the complainant and her mother if they disclosed the matter to anyone.
The matter came to light when an anonymous report was made to the Police, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
