A 22 year old man from Mberengwa was arrested for stabbing a 61 year old man with an Okapi knife after accusing him of having stolen his mobile phone some time back. The victim died at the scene. The accused was sentenced to 23 years imprisonment by High Court sesting at Gweru.

The NPA reports that Elivanos Shoko committed the offence, whilst the now deceased was 61 years old. A 22 year old man met the now deceased who was walking together with another man and started accusing the now deceased of having stolen his mobile phone some time back.

He slapped the now deceased who also picked up a stone which he threw at the accused person.

Elivanos Shoko charged towards the now deceased, grabbed him by the neck and withdrew an okapi knife which he used to stab him on the chest before fleeing the scene.

The deceased died on the spot.

A Police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe continues to encourage members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
