Beitbridge-A 64 year-old Zezani village resident was arrested for assaulting his 58 year old wife with a stick, striking her all over her body, accusing her of delaying preparing breakfast.
He was sentenced to 24 months imprisonment of which 8 months was suspended and will serve 16 months effectively. He was convicted and sentenced by Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court
The National Prosecuting Authority reports that the accused person returned home from a memorial service in Zezani village and requested his wife, the complainant, to prepare breakfast. While waiting, he went to Zezani Business Centre. Upon his return, he began shouting at the complainant, accusing her of intentionally delaying breakfast preparation.
The accused person then physically assaulted the complainant with a stick, striking her all over her body.
He further assaulted her on the head with a stone, causing an open wound and severe swelling.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe encourages members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or seek third party mediation.
