Zimbabwe women’s national team, the Mighty Warriors, have been booted out of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Angola in a penalty shootout.

Following their 2-1 defeat in Luanda in the first leg, the Mighty Warriors staged a brilliant come back by defeating Angola 2-1 in the second leg in regular time at Lucas Moripe Stadium, which saw the two teams level on aggregate(3-3) resulting in a penalty shootout. Unfortunately for the Mighty Warriors , Angola emerged victorious , ending their hopes of qualification.

Despite, the Mighty Warriors ‘ defeat, ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi has appreciated the girls ‘ dedication and efforts.


“They were very unfortunate that they lost on penalties but they gave a good account of themselves. But this shows that we have ground for better performance ,”Magwizi stated.

After suffering this heartbreaking defeat, the Mighty Warriors will just have to go back, regroup and prepare for the upcoming adventures. While Angola will proceed and will likely face the mighty Malawi in the next round.
