The Meteorological Services Department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions of the country. The adverse weather is expected from Today (Wednesday) to Thursday 20 February 2025.

The areas that can be affected in Zimbabwe, include Matabeleland North, Midlands, and Mashonaland provinces.

The Meteorological Services Department has urged residents in the affected regions to exercise caution, as heavy rain and thunderstorms could lead to localized flooding, waterlogged roads, and disruptions to daily activities.

People are advised to stay informed through official weather updates, avoid crossing flooded rivers and streams, secure property and livestock, and seek shelter indoors during thunderstorms.

“There is a chance of flash floods in flood-prone areas and river basins. Roads may also be slippery, and visibility may be reduced by rainfall, necessitating an increased braking distance and there may also be fallen trees and power lines. Therefore, the public is advised to take precautionary measures as recommended by the Civil Protection Unit,”said the MSD alert.
