A 36-year-old woman from Mutare has been convicted of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs, specifically dagga, at her residence.
Locadia Murandu was sentenced to pay a fine of USD 300 or face 120 days of imprisonment in default of payment. She was arraigned and convicted by the Mutare Magistrate Court.
According to reports from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), detectives from the CID Drugs and Narcotics in Manicaland received information that the accused was in possession of dangerous drugs, particularly dagga, at her home.
Acting on the tip-off, the detectives went to the accused’s residence, introduced themselves, and explained the purpose of their visit.
During a search of the bedroom, they discovered 58 sachets containing loose dagga in a grey handbag hanging on the wall.
Further searches in the bedroom led to the seizure of a plastic bag containing loose dagga from a black monarch.
The accused was subsequently arrested. The dagga weighed 355 grams and had a street value of USD 50.
