A 37-year-old man from Shirleigh Farm in Darwendale, known as Ivor Butau, has been convicted by the Chinhoyi Magistrate Court for stealing and slaughtering a black and brown bull.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Butau, who was employed as a herdman by the complainant, took advantage of the complainant’s absence to steal the bull, which he subsequently slaughtered.

After the theft, Butau transported the meat to Shirleigh Farm Compound in Darwendale, where he began selling it. The police were alerted to the situation after receiving information about the accused selling beef in the area.

Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officials visited the residence of Butau’s mother, where they recovered the bull’s carcass, which was stored in a refrigerator.

Upon being informed by the police about the stock theft at his farm, the complainant filed a report, leading to Butau’s arrest.

The stolen bull was valued at USD 400, but unfortunately, nothing was recovered from the sale.
