A 29-year-old woman from Nkayi will not serve jail time after being convicted of assault for stabbing a man with a broken beer bottle during a late-night dispute at a local nightclub.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of Zimbabwe reported that the incident occurred on 30 July 2025 at around 11:00 pm. The 26-year-old victim from Cowdray Park was playing snooker with a friend when the woman became agitated after her aunt was approached by the victim’s companion.

In anger, she struck the man’s arm with an empty beer bottle. As he tried to escape, she chased him and stabbed him once in the back with the broken bottle, rendering him unconscious. The victim was rushed to Nkayi District Hospital, where he remains under medical care.

The court handed down a 15-month prison sentence, suspending three months over five years on condition of good behaviour. The remaining 12 months were fully suspended, provided she completes 420 hours of community service.

The NPA reminded the public to resolve conflicts peacefully, stressing that violence has no place in communities.

“This case highlights the dangers of violent behavior and the importance of peaceful conflict resolution,” the NPA said.
