As Zimbabwe grapples with a pressing electricity shortage that has seen loadshedding becoming a common feature in the country, it is pleasing to see some licenced independent power producers starting to operate and feed into the national grid.
Previously the Zimbabwe Power Company, has highlighted that it has licenced many IPPs but few have come on board that is why the feeding of power by Nyangani Renewable Energy Pvt is noteworthy.
The Honde Valley based company feeds approximately 3.5 megawatts per hour into the national grid from its solar single solar power station. It has a total of six power stations, producing 27megawatts per hour.
Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube, toured the private sector-run entity to have an appreciation of the work they are doing.
The energy sector remains a key enabler for two of the country’s main economic drivers which are agriculture and mining and are also extensively carried out in Manicaland.
