A 29 year old kombi driver, Nikisi Kudzanai Peter, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) after being captured on video driving on the pavement along Julius Nyerere Way, opposite OK Zimbabwe Supermarket, Harare Central Business District.
On January 18, 2025, police in Harare set up a roadblock along Seke Road after receiving a tip that the kombi was leaving Harare’s Central Business District route to Chitungwiza.
As the driver approached the roadblock site near ABC Auctions, he attempted to flee by reversing the kombi, but was blocked by oncoming vehicles.
He then switched off the kombi and fled. The kombi was subsequently impounded.
The driver was arrested on January 22, 2025, after police received information about his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the ZRP’s ongoing “No to Mushikashika”operation continues.
On 22nd January 2025, 538 arrests were made throughout the country bringing cumulative arrests to 8 233. So far, 204 touts have been arrested while 67 unregistered or plateless vehicles have been impounded.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns motorists against flouting road rules and regulations and in the process endanger the lives of the public.
