Police in Beitbridge are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a male adult along the Bulawayo–Beitbridge highway.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Chiratidzo Ncube, confirmed the incident and said it occurred at the 317km peg.

“We received the report at around 1:35 AM on 22 September 2025, and our officers quickly attended the scene,” said Ncube.

She said that the body of the deceased was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem.

Investigations are still ongoing, and police are appealing to anyone with information to assist.

The point at which the deceased met his fate is on the stretch Beitbridge residents have been requesting to have the road installed with speed limiters and street lights.

This year alone more than 10 people have died in accidents at the same stretch where motorists race to and from the border.

In other towns the same highway has speed humps at Collen Bawn, Gwanda, Mawabeni, and Esigodini.

All those town are less populated than Beitbridge with 60 000 people and thicker traffic volumes.
