BEITBRIDGE’s Ward 5 residents are willing to contribute for the completion of a trunk line to bring municipal treated water to their homes seeing the project has been stalled for long.

The prolonged delay has forced residents to rely on borehole water, which contains excessive salt, apart from using septic tanks.

Salty water damages appliances including piping, reduce cleaning effectiveness, and pose health risks if used for drinking or cooking.

In an interview with Ziyah News Network, Ward 5 Councillor Mary Ngorima highlighted the urgency of the project.

“Residents proposed that if the developer fails to complete the trunk liner, the council should intervene and communicate next steps. Many expressed willingness to contribute financially to purchase pipes to expedite the project,” she said.

Ngorima also said other priorities raised by residents include the completion of Shuleshule Road near Wamulala Street, tarring the main road from the rank to Shuleshule, and maintenance of all access roads.

Residents requested the installation of streetlights and improvements to sewage lines running across Dulivhadzimu School on both the eastern and western sides.

“The community has clearly outlined their needs, and as their representative, I will ensure these projects are given attention when the budget is allocated,” Ngorima said.

She said the lack of streetlights has become a major concern across all wards in Beitbridge town, calling for urgent action from the Municipality of Beitbridge.
