A tragic road accident that occurred yesterday along the Mutare-Juliasdale Road claimed the life of a Nyangani High School student and left 15 others injured.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the incident, stating, “A fatal road traffic accident involving students from Nyangani High School occurred on 07/11/24 at the 62-kilometre peg along the Mutare-Juliasdale Road.”
The accident happened when a school Toyota Hiace kombi, carrying 19 passengers, veered off the road, overturned, and landed on its side.
The deceased student’s identity has not yet been released, and their body is currently at Bonda Mission Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The injured students have been admitted to Bonda Mission Hospital and Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, police in Rusape are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on November 6, 2024.
A yet-to-be-identified man was killed after being struck by an unknown motorist at the 182-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mutare Road.
The body has been taken to the Rusape General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the hit-and-run incident to report to the nearest police station.
