The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced strengthened supervision of roadblock operations across the country to curb cases of corruption, indiscipline and ensure professionalism among officers manning the checkpoints.

In a statement Thursday October 23 2025, ZRP spokesperson Paul Nyathi said all roadblock activities are now closely monitored by Station, District and Provincial Commanders, who are required to ensure that officers adhere to set standards and deliver quality service to the public.

“The police officers conducting roadblock duties are supervised by Station, District and Provincial Commanders to prevent cases of indiscipline or corruption and ensure quality service to the public,” He said.

This follows massive complaints from motorists and travelers over the growing number of police roadblocks on major highways and city roads across the country.

Many have accused law enforcement officers of causing unnecessary delays, congestion and harassment, particularly on busy routes linking Harare to Beitbridge, Mutare and Masvingo.

Nyathi said that no roadblocks are set within a 30 to 50 kilometre radius of each policing area, whether in urban or rural setups.

Nyathi said they have taken note of public concerns regarding the sighting and manning of roadblocks across the country and assured the nation that such operations are guided by clear procedures.

However Nyathi also said the number of roadblocks may temporarily increase during certain situations such as public order operations, national events or emergency incidents involving moving criminals or stolen property.

“Soon after, the situation has to revert back to the ideal scenario,” He said.

Nyathi said disciplinary action will be taken against any officer who conducts roadblock duties in a manner that violates the set standards.

ZRP has urged members of the public to engage directly with the Commissioner-General of Police or respective Provincial Commanders if they have concerns about unusual roadblock deployments.

“The public is free to raise concerns or lodge complaints through the National Complaints Desk,” said Nyathi .
