The South African Premier Soccer League executive committee has taken a drastic decision to expel beleaguered side Royal AM from the lucrative Nedbank Cup.
Royal AM were scheduled to face their KwaZulu-Natal rivals Milford FC a month ago in the opening round of the tournament.
PSL highlighted that Royal AM will no longer compete in the Nedbank Cup competition this season in the interest of time with Thwihli Thwahla continuing to be embroiled in a legal battle with SARS.
“Having reviewed the representations, the Executive Committee in concurrence with Royal AM and the cocurater, resolved that Royal AM football club will take no further part in the Nedbank Competition this season in the interests of time,” PSL stated.
SARS wants to recoup a R40-million tax debt that is also tied to club president Shauwn Mkhize’s family trust and have so far been given permission to sell or liquidate the PSL franchise.
Royal AM owner’s saga has also left them seven PSL matches behind. Additional with the club under SARS curatorship and at risk of being either sold or liquidated, there are no assurances that they will play this fixtures.
