The Southern African Development Community Heads of State and their compatriots from the East African Community are set to have a joint virtual meeting today to discuss the critical security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The joint summit follows a l series of summits that were convened with the agenda of peace restoration like this one, however the peace restoration agenda seems to be taking long to achieve true to the allusion of one of the greatest French leaders Napoleon Bonaparte when once said “it is easier to begin war than to end it ”.

The SADC Secretariat highlighted that the virtual meeting will be co chaired by the EAC chairperson, the president of Kenya William Ruto and SADC chairperson, Zimbabwe ‘s president ED Mnangangwa.

“The Heads of State and Government of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will convene their second joint Summit on 24 March 2025 to address the critical security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).The virtual joint Summit will be co-chaired by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Chairperson of the EAC, and His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” SADC Secretariat stated.

The summit will also deliberate on the report presented during the last EAC – SADC ministerial meeting that was held on 17 March 2025 in Harare, Zimbabwe
