Namibia is set to inaugurate it’s first female president Netumbo Ndaitwah today in Windhoek , coinciding with the country’s 35th independence.

Head of States across the continent such South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Zimbabwe’s President ED Mnangagwa will also be present at Ndaitwah ‘s inauguration.

Following her 57% election victory in November 2024 , the 72 year old vice president and senior SWAPO member defeated 14 rivals, cementing herself in the history books of Namibia to become its first female president.

Ndaitwah succeeds President Mbumba, who served as the interim president following the death of Hage Geingob in February 2024.

Her election marks a historic milestone for Namibia, highlighting progress in women’s leadership.

Ndaitwah ‘s inauguration ensures SWAPO ‘s continual reign since Namibia ‘s independence in 1990.
