Harare —  Celebrated comedian and musician Freddy “Kapfupi” Manjalima has finally received a brand-new Toyota Aqua from businessman Wicknell Chivayo, a week after being turned away from a dealership for appearing intoxicated.

Kapfupi, known for his streetwise comedy and catchy musical skits, arrived at the Harare dealership on Sunday, June 9, accompanied by his wife and looking noticeably sober.

His visit marked a personal milestone after a public embarrassment the previous Sunday, when the dealership’s representative, Madzibaba Chipaga, refused to hand over the car due to Kapfupi’s drunken state.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Kapfupi revealed he had abstained from alcohol for a week, saying, “I haven’t touched a drop of alcohol since last week. The bad in one thing brings out the good in another, and in this, you taught me, and I learned.”

He also expressed gratitude to Chivayo, adding, “Blessings from God—spirits do not give three times, but the Apostle gives five times indeed!”

Chivayo’s history of generous vehicle donations has garnered both praise and criticism. The businessman, known for his controversial past and alleged links to shady government deals, has been frequently spotted giving away imported cars to celebrities, clergy, and socialites, often sharing these moments on social media.

Critics argue that his donations are more about boosting his public image and gaining political favor than genuine philanthropy, especially given his ongoing legal and financial controversies.

Kapfupi’s experience added a new dimension to the ongoing debate. Unlike other recipients who have received their vehicles seamlessly, his first attempt was marred by embarrassment due to his intoxicated state.

However, Kapfupi’s subsequent return, sober and accompanied by his wife, was seen as a moment of redemption. In his thank-you message to Chivayo, he called him “a guiding light for the foolish” and pledged never to drink again.
