The South African Home Affairs department issued a statement dismissing a notice circulating on social media giving notice of an operation to arrest, detain and deport the illegal immigrants.

The Department warned people not to fall victim the fake news.
“Take note of Fake News making the rounds on social media platforms! Don’t fall victim to these false claims! #TeamHomeAffairs,” Home Affairs stated.

Meanwhile, South African citizens have burst out with comments on the dismissed news claiming that Home Affairs is complicit when it comes to immigrants issues.

“Home affairs is complicit when it comes to illegal immigration, and this department is not serious about fixing this issue.Illegal immigration poses a threat to our country and it’s citizens, yet you turn a blind eye, your stance in this particular matter is appalling. have reasons to believe that the home affairs minister is protecting illegal immigrants because the private sector has a huge number of illegal immigrants as employees ,and also not to forget to mention the fact that this sector is also involved in cheap labour practices,” a citizen wrote.

Despite the South African Home Affairs‘ dismissal of the circulating notice, facts still show that South Africa has been facing illegal immigrants problem for years. In 2024 Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, once announced plans to re-establish the Immigration Advisory Board and expand inspections in business establishments to act against the employment of undocumented migrants.
