Warriors defender Devine Lunga ‘s team, Mamelodi Sundowns  suffered a 3-2  aggregate loss  to Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions league final in Cairo ensuring the champions league crown remain in the land of the Pharaohs.

Following a 1-1 draw at Loftus Versfeld in South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns struggled to withstand the pressure from the Pyramids  Cairo, conceding two  goals away from home.

Sundowns were punished early by the DR Congo International Fiston Mayele before Ahmed  Samy  scored the second, following Sundowns ‘ failure to defend a set piece, which enabled Pyramids FC to secure their first Crown.

The African  continent witnessed a new champion lifting a rebranded trophy as Pyramids FC raised the Egyptian flag high in continental football ,  following in the  footsteps of the now former defending champions Al Ahly SC.

Since Sundowns won the CAF Champions league in 2016 , only Northern African clubs have  won the title. Sundowns ‘strong performance this year had given many football fans hope that the trend will be broken and bring the title to Southern Africa. However Pyramids FC  defied the odds and secured their first star.
