Tafadzwa Chidawa (36) and Clara Manyepera (38) have been arrested and brought before the Harare Magistrates Court for allegedly operating an illegal “Matrix Disciplinary and Training Camp” in New Marlborough, Harare.

Chidawa and Manyepera appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court for their initial remand, with the investigation ongoing. They were remanded to April 20 on US$300 bail each.

The pair faces charges related to operating an unregistered private voluntary organization and impersonating child protection officers.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Chidawa and Manyepera established and operated the camp without necessary registration and licensing, violating the Private Voluntary Organizations Act.
The camp, located at Number 2165 Tokwane Close, aimed to “rehabilitate” children with delinquency issues, admitting youths from 6 December 2023, onwards.

The state alleges that the duo impersonated child protection officers, offering services reserved for qualified individuals, including counseling, supervision, and control.

Chidawa and Manyepera acted unlawfully, breaking the Children’s Act. Video footage of the pair conducting training sessions is in the possession of the State.

The methods used at the Matrix Disciplinary camp have sparked mixed reactions and controversy in the public domain, as some parents condemn the methodology used at the disciplinary camp.
