THE Zimbabwe Teachers Sports Association (ZITSA) will host the Inter-District Teachers Sports Competitions on Friday, April 24, at United College of Education in Bulawayo.
Districts expected to take part include Matobo, Insiza, Matobo South, Mangwe, Bulilima, Tsholotsho, Nkayi, Bubi, Reigate, Umguza, Bulawayo Central, Lupane, Mzingwane and United College.
Mzilikazi, Beitbridge and Mzingwane are also likely to join the contest.
The tournament will feature a range of sporting codes such as soccer, netball, athletics, chess, volleyball, and tennis, among others.
Wellington Msila, ZITSA Matabeleland regional chairperson told Ziyah News Network preparations are progressing well, with 12 teams set to compete.
“Preparations for the competitions are underway, with 12 teams to participate in the games,” he said.
“The competitions aim to ensure mature professionals take part to attain wellness, fitness, and networking among all 12 district teams.the focus is more on wellness and fitness than winning.”he said
The Insiza district chairperson and defending soccer champions, Mgcini Ncube said the games go beyond competition.
“Competitions are more of sharing ideas for teachers in NAPH and NASH to develop learners’ academics and sports,” he said.
Tsholotsho ZITSA chairperson, Petronella E. Hove also confirmed her district’s participation.
“About 60 participants from Tsholotsho will join the competitions in Bulawayo.These competitions are meant for us teachers to mix and mingle while exercising fitness and wellness,” she said.
A representative from Gwanda district, Godknows Moyo said they will not take part on the competitions this time.
“Unfortunately, this year Gwanda will not attend the competitions due to unforeseen reasons, but we will take part in some sporting disciplines scheduled for August later this year,” he said.
