Two women, Tanaka Mafukidze (24) and Prudent Chipo Musimike (25), appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of malicious damage to property following a fire that destroyed belongings belonging to musician Trevor Dongo.
The incident reportedly occurred on March 21, 2025, at Lombard Mansions in Harare belonging to Rosemary Danda.
The Mansion caught fire and Danda was alerted by her brother and upon arrival, observed the flat burning and two seemingly inebriated women at the scene
Investigations revealed that Dongo was with his girlfriend, Mafukidze, who had been out for lunch with her friend, Musimike. The trio reportedly gathered at Dongo’s flat, but tensions arose when Accused 2’s presence led to a disagreement between Dongo and Mafukidze.
According to reports, while Dongo left to pick up a friend, the two women continued arguing inside the flat. During the altercation, they allegedly set the property ablaze.
When Dongo returned, he found his property burning and the estimated value of the damaged property is US$21,178.00.
The accused women were remanded in custody and are set to return to court for their trial scheduled on June 11, 2025.
In light of this case, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) has urged the public to resolve disputes amicably through dialogue or third-party mediation, emphasizing non-violent approaches to conflict resolution.
